Frequently Asked Questions

Web Deflection System

What is the Web Deflection System used for?

The WDS is a measuring and analysis tool that will help detect stress points on the crankshaft webs. When coupled with the WebMap2 software you can collect and analyze data using 3D and graphical representation of the shaft.

How do I get the WebMap2 software after purchasing the WDS unit?

WebMap2 software is distributed electronically over the Internet at http://www.classactt.com/software/webmap.htm through Anderson Consulting, Training and Testing. The Riverhawk WDS is available with the option to measure crankshaft deflections in either English or Metric units. The WebMap2 software accommodates either version. The software is activated after downloading by contacting ACTT for a registration code at (800) 836-7333 or by email at actt@ceconet.com with proof of purchase of the Riverhawk WDS.

Do I need training to use the WDS?

No training is needed to utilize the WDS for manual data collection. Training for WebMap2 can be arranged, if desired and technical support is always available from Riverhawk.

Torque Metering System

Why use a Riverhawk Torque Meter?

  • Direct measurement of power transferred
  • Monitors process efficiency
  • Provides another indication of problems
  • Helps schedule a shutdown
    • No sooner than needed
    • Earlier than scheduled, if needed
    • One plant postponed a shutdown from 3 Years to 7 Years, as it was not necessary

What are the benefits of a Riverhawk Torque Metering System over the competition?

The Riverhawk Torque Metering System offers the following: Lower Total Installed Cost, Lower Cost Torque Meter, Simple and Light Coupling Design - Low Moment, No "Special" Coupling Guard Requirements, No Dependence on Mechanical Aspects, Fully Temperature Compensated, Better Repeatability, Calibrated on Static Torque Stand, Better "Real" Accuracy, Flexibility to Add Capability, Torsional Vibration, Customer Oriented, and Mounting Options - Surface Mounted or 19" Rack Mounted.

Why should I include the 'Real-Time' Alignment package?

The Riverhawk 'Real-Time' Alignment package is currently the only product on the market capable of supplying a misalignment indication while the machine is in operation and the shaft is rotating, it simplifies cold alignment before startup, prevents damage due to misalignment, provides another indication of problems, and insures optimum efficiency of power transfer.

Eddy Current Proximity Probes

How does an Eddy Current Proximity Probe work?

The way that the probe works is the following - the probe contains an inductance element (winding) that surrounds a ferrite core which when excited by a current generates a magnetic flux field. That magnetic field, in turn, generated eddy-currents on any adjacent metal target thereby causing losses in its flux density. The probe detects those losses in the magnetic flux density and when the probe is connected to either a probe driver or transmitter, it will generate an output voltage that is proportional to the distance (gap) between the probe tip and the target. The distance over which this voltage to gap proportion is linear, may be several thousands of an inch (.001"= 1 mil) or mils to as much as one inch.

Vibration and Position Monitors

I have a V/P-T3, VT-11A, or Series 2000 TriLight vibration monitor; do you have a new version of those monitors?

Yes, the SCM1100 is a Single Channel Monitor for vibration monitoring utilizing an A1 Seismic Sensor. It is a direct replacement for the older V/P-T3, VT-11A, or Series 2000 TriLight monitors.

What sort of information do I need to supply when ordering any of Riverhawk's Vibration and Position monitors?

When ordering any of Riverhawk's monitors, in addition to the operating voltage and vibration/position range, you must provide the following: Analog Output, HSP Factor, Setpoints time delay, RPM, Frequency response of filter, Whether the alarm should operate as failsafe or normal (energized or de-energized relay - normal is de-energized). For more information on the above settings, please visit the Vibration and Position Monitors page.
